Beekeeping – Tip to Keep Out Ants

Here’s a handy little method I use to keep ants from climbing up my hive stand legs.

Couple of questions / points:
1) I used to have my hive stands "free standing", but the wind has knocked them over in the past. So now I take 2×4's and cut a point on one end and hammer it down into the ground (about a foot) as the legs to my hive stands.

2) The tanglefoot comes as a "tree wrap" – why not just wrap it around the legs of the stand?

3) I don't use tanglefoot. I use "all purpose grease" ($10/tub at Wal-Mart). Seems to last a full year…
